Film review
Kes (1969)
★★★★
Like a mix of Billy Elliot, Matilda, and Picnic at Hanging Rock.
Billy Elliot's the obvious comp; lower class family in Britain - showing the lives of the protagonist and his family.
Matilda; kid against adults who are all to get them and bully them throughout
And for some reason I was reminded of picnic at hanging rock. The outdoor cinematography (incredible) and the bird training scenes. It all felt mystical and otherworldly. The same feeling I had watching PAHR
I'm not sure what the DVD version looked like for many years, but I can feel the beautiful criterion restoration. It's so vivid, it feels like it was filmed this year.
P.S. make sure you have subtitles - you'll need it
