Days of Heaven (1978)

★★★★★

Wow

This was one of the most beautifully shot movies I’ve ever seen.
I remember seeing somewhere that the lovely night sequence in La La Land took around two weeks because they only had 30 minutes of sunset and the proper lighting to film and with the multiple takes they kept on having to push the shoot into the next day. So, according to my calculations, half of this movie took about two years to make.

Seriously, though, the use of natural light and silhouettes in this movie is unlike anything I’ve seen
The fact that Malick has this movie as his second ever film  is absolutely absurd to me. To have that much talent is other worldly. just the locust sequence alone left my jaw dropped and kept it dropped for around 20 minutes.

My immediate thought after this movie is that I have to go back and redo a lot of my Letterboxd ratings because this movie is what a true five star movie is
