Day 1: Munich Trip

This trip was planned very last minute as an effort to stave off the increasing boredom I'd had in my first work-free, pre-draft week and foresaw as only getting worse during the next week. I chose Munich, I think, because I looked at a map of flights from Israel to anywhere and Munich was relatively cheap. I started looking into things to do there and I guess it just snowballed from there. Before I knew it, I had booked flights, an Air BNB and a couple of excursions.

I got to Ben Gurion and they told me my flights delayed 2 hours. No worries though; I had a layover in Heraklion for nearly 6 hours and could afford the delay. I took the time to plan the rest of my trip and booked a few more activities and even train tickets to get there. I mapped everything out. I went down to the gate at the boardjng time and saw no attendants there. After waiting for half an hour, I did another walkabout of the airport, and came back to still see no attendant at the gate. This continued for another two hours at which point Id begun to worry about making my connection.

Finally, after 4 hours delay and a total of 8 hours waiting in Ben Gurion, the flight attendant came and we departed. What was originally going to be a few hours in Heraklion, perhaps even an excursion into the town, became a sprint from the tarmac to my connecting flight. I made it to the next gate as soon as they began boarding.

I landed in Munich, took a train and subway to my AirBNB in the center of town and got there at 12:30 in the morning. The host insisted on staying awake to let me in and show me the apartment. We spoke for a few minutes when I got there. She's an incredibly nice lady and accommodating host, but all I could think about was taking a shower and going to bed as I'd be waking up in 4 hours to take the train to my first proper activity on my itinerary. First day of the trip was a pure waiting in airports travel day, but a day of travel nonetheless.
