The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)

Holy crap. I'm devastated. I'm not really entirely sure why because it isn't like anything monumentally despairing happens in the end. The whole movie was just so sad and the tone gets under your skin.
Also don't remember another movie that has 3 different protagonists and plot lines, contributing basically a third of the movie to each, that also all interconnect.
