Film review
Saltburn (2023)
★★★★★
There's nothing quite like going to theater, not fully knowing what to expect with a movie, and within the first few minutes, knowing that you're in the hands of a director who will blow you away. I felt like a kid in a film candy shop throughout this movie.
My man Linus Sandgren deserves at least 6 stars on letterboxd if not an Oscar for his cinematography. He absolutely killed it. Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi, as well as the entire cast were pitch perfect. The script! Wow the script was so original and FUNNY.
The director had a vision and swung for the fences and boy did she deliver. This was one of the most original, inventive, engaging, funny, deep, provocative movies I've seen at the theaters in a long time.
I felt like I was watching Asian cinema; I had no idea where the story was going and each twist and turn was executed as if, of course, thats the way the story had to go. I say Asian cinema because it's the same feeling I had with Park Chan Wook's "Oldboy" and "Handmaiden".
Fresh, brilliant cinema captured perfectly on film. Nothing better.
Oh and please see this in a theater. Some scenes elicit a gutteral reaction - its best you have other people experiencing it with you. Saltburn was a pure delight.
