Past Lives (2023)

Its SOOO good. So good. There are too many elements to this masterpiece to talk about in this letterboxd review but man, this movie is an absolute gut punch. Killed me and brought me back to life only to absolutely assasinate me with the ending.
You know that scene in before sunrise when theyre in the record shop, just barely avoiding each others gaze? And you can see them slowly falling in love? And you know that feeling you get while you're watching that, where any hopeless romantic sensibilities you have dial up to 11?
Yeah. Thats the feeling I got whenever Hae Sung and Na Young were talking with each other. I had that sustained throughout the course of this movie. Idk how Celine song did it. Especially as a playwright. Yes this script is absolutely killer but the visual storytelling as well. She knocked it out of the park.
This is probably the most realistic romance I've ever seen and a top 3 of mine for sure. Ill show this to my kids one day
