Film review
Malcolm X (1992)
★★★★★
A masterwork. Felt like classic Hollywood filmmaking dialed up to 11 - taken to the highest heights it can go. Main feeling I had throughout was: style. This movie has so much style. The lighting in every shot. The shadows and coloring. And editing. And acting. And an incredibly smooth script. Majority of shots feel iconic.
Definitely an epic and one of the best biopics well ever get. But it does feel like classic, working within a very well defined language, filmmaking. Not to say that should take away from it's power at all. Spoke lee really nails the form and knows how and when to experiment and expand.
Compare it with Oppenheimer though for example. It feels more "real"
I guess what in trying to say is it felt like I was watching a movie. An insanely well made one. But still a movie
Oh also probably the greatest way to pass a 4 hour shmira quickly
