Umbrellas of Cherbourg conditioned me into thinking this male overly romantic look-alike was going to burst out in song at any moment

This was made SOO well, and so tenderly considering the subject matter. Varda's editing and focus pulling in certain scenes were the real standouts of her craft for me.

The whole last 5 minutes, with the diabolical, heavy strings classical music playing over the "mistress" usurping the wifes role and becoming the new mother reminded me A LOT of the "Belt of Faith" masterclass of a montage in Parasite where the whole plan is outlined. I would not be surprised if this was a direct influence.
